OVERVIEW: The Gay Community Center of Richmond (GCCR) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1999 to "improve the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people." GCCR currently operates two major fundraising ventures, Diversity Thrift and Diversity Bingo.

LOCATION: The GCCR is located at 1407 Sherwood Avenue in Richmond. This acre-plus sized building is behind The Diamond off Hermitage Rd and Children's Hospital off Brook Rd.

THE GCCR WILL FEATURE:

    DIVERSITY THRIFT: A charity thrift store to benefit the LGBT community. Currently occupying 15,000 sq. ft. completed in January 2006.
  • DIVERSITY BINGO: Renovations scheduled for completion 7/31/07. This space will be used for bingo four days/nights per week to fund GCCR and other charities.
  • COMMERCIAL KITCHEN: to provide full meals/snacks at bingo/events.
  • FOUR CONFERNCE ROOMS: from 175 to 575 sq. ft. available for community use. (These will become available after the warehouse section of the building is renovated, as they are currently being used to receive, store and process donated merchandise.)
  • CONVENIENT PARKING: 150 spaces with additional street parking.
  • SPECIAL EVENT SATURDAYS: The event hall will be available for social events, fundraisers, conferences, receptions, etc. and will have an occupancy permit of 1,000.
  • TWO EXTRA NIGHTS for community use: Special events or regular activities may be scheduled in the event hall depending upon community feedback.
